Earlier this year, students in 1° y 2º Bachillerato, y 4° ESO had the opportunity to meet face-to-face students from New York and Boston, USA and their teachers. The meetings were possible thanks to the Penfriend project operating since 2010, where over 290 Menesiano students from 3° ESO up write letters in English and Spanish to students at Division Avenue High School, Long Island, New York and Chico High School, California.

The American visitors arrived early in the morning and were taken on a tour of the school, stopping off at two Primary classes who were in the middle of their English class. They then participated in class activities where our Menesiano students had the opportunity to spend the entire day speaking English as well as helping the Americans with their Spanish. The visitors from Boston were challenged to a football match by 4°ESO during the morning break, and the New Yorkers were fortunate enough to eat Chocolate con Churros with Menesiano students at San Ginés in the city centre.

The visit was interesting for the American visitors to experience day-to-day life in a Madrid school, and for our students it was a fantastic opportunity to meet English speakers of their own age and to indulge in real-life conversation.
